History and Mission of Saint Patrick’s School

Saint Patrick’s School has been a vital part of Saint Patrick Church’s ministry since shortly after the parish was founded in 1847. It began humbly in 1860 when Rev. Peter McMahon offered classes in the parish rectory. In 1864, with the bishop of Covington’s permission, the Visitation nuns formally established an academy, laying the foundation for future growth. The current school was officially founded in 1902 by Rev. Patrick Jones, initially serving eight grades, with a high school added in 1926.

The campus expanded over time, with the oldest section built in 1948 under Msgr. Leo Casey and further additions, including a high school wing and gym, completed in 2000 by Rev. William Hinds. Notably, Saint Patrick’s School is the only Catholic parochial school in the Diocese of Covington that offers education from preschool through 12th grade.

Continuing its founders’ mission, the school nurtures the Catholic faith in students, helping them grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. In 2017, Saint Patrick’s added a Montessori preschool program, reinforcing its commitment to guide children in knowing, loving, and serving God throughout their lives.
